THE HOUSE OF SONGS IN AUSTIN TO PRESENT 1ST SHOWCASE BY DANISH MUSICIANS
Threadgill's Show Part of Unique Collaboration Linking Danish & Austin
Artists
Austin, TX -- They're almost here! Danish songwriters start arriving in
Austin during the first week of October to take part in a unique
collaboration between Scandinavian and American artists to co-write new
songs and find new ways to share them called The House of Songs, in which
the talented visitors will spend a week or more in "the Live Music Capital
of the World" experiencing the city's music scene, working on new material
and performing.
The House of Songs' first showcase is scheduled for 9-11 p.m. Thursday,
October 8, at Threadgill's World Headquarters, 301 W. Riverside Drive. Cover
is $5; club information: 512.472.9304. Doors open at 8 p.m.
The showcase will feature boy-girl Danish duo Leaving A Small Town with
band, Danish rock-roots-pop star Poul Krebs, Austin singer-
songwriter-producer Troy Campbell and Danish roots-pop/rock artist Kristian
Svenningsen.
Inside The House of Songs program, a one-year partnership between a group of
Danish songwriters guilds and songwriters and producers in Austin, visiting
artists will be connected with the best Austin-based songwriters to create
productive and lasting partnerships between Scandinavian and American
songwriters.
Guitarist-singer-producer Niels Chr. Overgaard Simmel and vocalist Stinne
Tornøe Frederiksen of Leaving A Small Town just released their self-titled
debut album with a sound in the vein of the Raveonettes and Sweden's
Cardigans. Leaving A Small Town blends delicate melodies, edgy rock and
dusty roots music, and a philosophy that includes use of the duet as
instrument, the dream of something more than small hometowns can deliver,
and a longing for far and foreign places.
Krebs, whose latest Denmark release is the 2009 recording ANGELENO ROAD, has
sold more than 1,000,000 albums in a career spanning 25 years. Sales of
albums with covers of his songs total more than 300,000.
Svenningsen, after his first trip to SXSW in 1998, established a songwriters
scene in Åarhus, the second biggest city in Denmark, and
hosted monthly "Writers Club" shows for several years. He has released five
albums on his own label, Rarlyd, while constantly touring in Denmark.
Campbell, who will serve as The House of Songs project ambassador, chief
executive and artistic adviser, has co-written songs that have gone gold and
platinum, including "Jeg Lar Min Dør Stå Lidt På Klim," the cut penned with
Krebs and Henning Kvitnes. He has toured internationally since 1994 and in
2002 attended the Danish songwriters guilds' annual, international
songwriters' camp Song Island that helped inspire The House of Songs in
Austin.
Danish songwriters visiting Austin will have the opportunity to record demos
of the new material they co-create and to participate in video blogs and
journals: two ways to share the results of their collaborations with the
world, which is one part of The House of
Songs' mission, and demonstrate what can happen when talented
musical artists from two countries that appreciate, cultivate and
celebrate live music are linked.

Loose Diamonds was one of Austin's most acclaimed, awarded and beloved bands.
Their last CD, Fresco Fiasco, was one of the New York Times' top ten albums of
the year and Rolling Stone called them "the hottest rocking roots band in
Austin." Loose Diamonds took a backseat to the solo careers of its two frontmen,
Troy Campbell & Scrappy Jud Newcomb.
Scrappy Jud Newcomb is a respected producer, guitarist and singer/songwriter,
who continues to push himself and his songs to new heights. He is also one of
the Capital's most sought out sidemen. The Austin Chronicle said, "'Scrappy' Jud
Newcomb approaches the guitar the same way Brooks Robinson did his glove or
Louis Pasteur his microscope..."
Troy Campbell has emerged as one of Austin's most promising filmmakers and
animators, a sharp mind delving into the spot where music, culture and film
converge, a mover and shaker with a passion for his subjects. Campbell continues
to write and perform songs with a passionate edge. Springsteen called him "a
rare voice."
